Our class ratio will be no more than 12 students to one teacher which allows more interaction, frequent feedback, and many opportunities for students to practice both Japanese and English in meaningful ways.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p3\"><span style=\"font-size: 18pt;\"><b>Specialized Subject Teachers<\/b><\/span><\/p>\n<p>Beginning in the early grades, students learn from specialized teachers for core subjects such as Japanese language, English language arts, math, and social studies\/science. Each teacher brings expertise in their subject area as well as experience in language arts bilingual instruction, ensuring that content learning and language development grow together.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p3\"><span style=\"font-size: 18pt;\"><b>Support for ELL and JLL Learners<\/b><\/span><\/p>\n<p>To meet the needs of students with different language backgrounds, JASD\u2019s Elementary School program provides small-group instruction for:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>ELL (English Language Learners) who need extra support in English<\/li>\n<li>JLL (Japanese Language Learners) who are newer to Japanese or need more focused practice<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>These groups are formed by grade level or level depending on the students needs. Instruction is age-appropriate and aligned with classroom content.
